Our Story
Depending on who you ask, the story of how they met might slightly differ...The bride would tell you that one of her best friend's and bridesmaid, Ashley, sent her a text message one day, asking if she would be interested in being set up on a blind date with a guy from her work. A guy who seemed nice, but whom she had minimal encounters with - however her friend, Marianne, who also happened to be his supervisor at the time, could vouch for him. Following a quick Facebook "research", Jovana sent Ashley a photo she found of Michael, for confirmation purposes... then agreed to be set up.
The groom would tell you that he was cornered at his desk by his supervisor and Ashley, with talks of a girl they wanted to set him up with. Relieved that he was not getting fired, he agreed to call Jovana and see where things go. After all, how could he resist - Ashley showed him a photo of himself that Jovana had sent her.
After getting her contact information, Michael waited 3 days to call Jovanna.. For those who don't know, Michael really tries to avoid talking on the phone. On their first phone call, they spoke for 45 minutes before Michael finally asked Jovana out on a date. On September 1, 2013, they went on their first date. Michael's recollection of their first encounters was noticing Jovana's smile and, once he stood beside her, how short she was. Jovana remembers thinking how handsome and tall Michael was. Michael picked Jovana up in his freshly cleaned Corolla-mobile and they proceeded to Parliament hill to watch the festival of lights. After that finished, in 20 minutes, Jovana showed Michael her very favourite spot in downtown Ottawa - The Rideau Locks. At the Locks, they spent hours talking, laughing and learning about each other. While they didn't know then that their blind date would lead to marriage and a lifelong commitment, they definitely knew they wanted to spend more time together. On their drive back to drop Iva off, they stopped in for a drink, before ending the night with a goodbye hug.
